This page explains how copyright.io files takedown notices on behalf of its subscribers, what those notices contain, and what happens if a notice is disputed.
1. Our role
copyright.io acts as the authorised agent of verified rights holders. During signup you verify that you control the identity being protected and you authorise us to prepare and submit notices for you. Every notice we send identifies itself as filed by copyright.io on behalf of the rights holder, and every notice is logged to your account — you can see exactly what was sent, to whom, and when.
2. What a notice contains
Notices follow the requirements of 17 U.S.C. §512(c)(3) (and equivalent regimes outside the US): identification of the original work, the infringing URL, a good-faith statement that the use is unauthorised, a statement of accuracy made under penalty of perjury, and contact details for follow-up. We file with the host’s designated abuse contact; where a host does not comply, we submit de-indexing requests to search engines for plans that include it.
3. Accuracy and misuse
We only file for verified identities, and subscribers warrant that their ownership claims are true. Knowingly false takedown claims can expose the claimant to liability under 17 U.S.C. §512(f). If we discover a claim is false or an account is misusing the service — for example to target a rival creator’s lawful content — we stop filing and terminate the account.
4. Counter-notices
If a site operator or uploader files a counter-notice in response to a notice we submitted, we pass it to the subscriber promptly with an explanation of the options. Whether to pursue the matter further (including in court) is the subscriber’s decision; we are not a law firm and do not litigate.

If you believe content on copyright.io itself infringes your rights, email dmca@copyright.io with the information listed in section 2. We respond within two business days.
